Title:

Del.: Gov. Markell to move forward on compassion centers!

Message:

Earlier today, it was announced that Gov. Jack Markell (D) has directed the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to move forward with drafting regulations for medical marijuana compassion centers. This is very welcome news that is a long time coming. Please email Gov. Markell to thank him for moving forward and to see how you can facilitate a smooth regulatory process.

MPP led the effort to shepherd medical marijuana legislation through the Delaware Legislature in 2011. Despite enacting the law and ordering DHHS to issue regulations for medical marijuana patient ID cards, the governor halted the regulatory process to set up compassion centers after receiving a somewhat threatening letter from the U.S. attorney. Thankfully, our legislative champions – Sen. Margret Rose Henry and Rep. Helene Keeley – never gave up hope and convinced the administration that a well-regulated program provides access to patients while appeasing the federal interest in control. Please take a moment to email our legislative champions to thank them for their good and hard work on behalf of medical marijuana patients.

This is just the first step to safe access. Please subscribe to our free alert service to stay up-to-date on the regulations process. Finally, please share this great news with your friends and family in The First State.
