DE: Senate passes S.B. 17; now on to the House!

Published: March 31, 2011

Ask your representative to support S.B. 17!

We’re halfway there! Today, the Delaware Senate passed S.B. 17, comprehensive medical marijuana legislation, in a bipartisan 18-3 vote. The bill now heads to the House Health & Human Development Committee. Please email your representative TODAY and ask him or her to support this compassionate legislation.

MPP’s Karen O’Keefe, director of state policies, and Noah Mamber, legislative analyst for Delaware, were in Dover today to assist with the floor debate. They were joined by several patients.

S.B. 17, sponsored by Sen. Margaret Rose Henry (D-Wilmington), would allow the compassionate use of medical marijuana for chronically ill Delaware patients with their doctors’ recommendations. It would include tightly regulated, extremely limited distribution of medical marijuana by licensing three not-for-profit compassion centers, one in each of the Delaware counties.

Although today’s Senate vote represents major progress, we’re not at the finish line yet, so we need you to continue contacting your legislators in support of this bill. Also, we’re still looking for advocates, so if you are a patient with a serious medical condition who might benefit from medical marijuana, a loved one of such a patient, a medical professional, or a member of law enforcement or the clergy, please contact Noah Mamber if you’d like to get involved.

Thanks for your support!
