A Denver charter school that serves high-risk youngsters has won a three-year federal grant to conduct drug tests and to counsel students who fail.
The Ace Community Charter School will receive $150,000 for the 2008-09 school year under the grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. Grants for the following two years will probably be the same amount, a spokesman for the federal agency said Wednesday.
Principal Eloy Chavez said his program serves students who have dropped out or been expelled from other schools. Many have drug problems and gang involvement, he said. |
