Column: Boulder Police Return Marijuana Clinic's Drugs

Boulder police have returned two 20-gallon barrels of marijuana to the New Options Wellness Clinic, a Boulder-based medical-marijuana dispensary that was robbed last week.

Two men robbed the clinic, at 2885 E. Aurora Ave., of marijuana and surveillance equipment at about 3:30 p.m. June 16. But a judge ruled that the marijuana couldn’t be returned until the suspects’ attorneys had a chance to test it, police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said.

“We have had to store it through this week,” Huntley said.

New Options owners went to the Boulder Police Department about 4 p.m. Thursday and recovered the marijuana. Officials with the clinic said they're tightening security and making operational changes.

Police arrested four men — David Henderson, 40, of Denver, Walter Carter, 21, of Aurora, Lamare McGee, 22, of Lakewood, and Justin St. John, 29, of Denver — in connection with the robbery.

McGee was released from the Boulder County Jail after posting a $50,000 bond. The others are still being held.

All four are scheduled for July 6 preliminary hearings, held to determine if there’s sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.
