Title:
Colo.: Amendment 64 could be repealed; please take action
Message:
We are joining the Amendment 64 campaign, which was financially supported by MPP, in sending this serious message. We need you to take action immediately.
As you all know, we achieved an amazing victory last November, when 55 percent of Coloradans voted in favor of Amendment 64, making marijuana legal for adults in the state.
Now, this entire victory could be taken away from us.
There are members of the state legislature poised to make Amendment 64's fate dependent upon a vote on a 15 percent special sales tax on non-medical marijuana -- a tax rate higher than is needed to fund regulation of the system.
They are so hungry for tax dollars, they are considering making the following threat to the people of Colorado:
Vote for our 15 percent tax or Amendment 64 might be repealed entirely.
Senate President John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) said he "absolutely" supports the idea. We cannot recall anything more offensive. Take action if you agree.
The Amendment 64 implementation team has provided members of the legislature with a poll showing that 77 percent of Coloradans would support a 10 percent sales tax on marijuana. They have also informed members that they support a 10 percent sales tax and would advocate in favor of it. Any member of the legislature who supports the 15 percent sales tax proposal with the threat of repeal is simply extorting the voters for a higher tax. This is wrong.
Please take two minutes to tell your representatives in the legislature that you will not stand for this. Tell them you want a clean tax measure on the ballot.
Thanks in advance for standing up for Amendment 64.
