Take action in support of California’s medical marijuana program!

Published: August 23, 2011

Two proposals that could erode the California medical marijuana program are on the verge of becoming law. AB 1300 is on its way to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk, and SB 847 already passed the state Senate and could be voted on by the full Assembly any day, so please take action now!

AB 1300, sponsored by Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield, could strengthen the legal argument to allow cities and counties in California to ban medical marijuana collectives and other providers. Recently, a Superior Court Judge in Orange County held that cities can ban dispensaries, but this decision is expected to be appealed. Ask the governor to veto this bill.

SB 847, sponsored by Sen. Lou Correa, would create a 600-foot radius around residential zones or residential uses where medical marijuana providers would not be allowed to operate. Since many areas that are zoned other than residential allow residential use, this bill could effectively ban medical marijuana providers from populated areas, leading to the unacceptable consequence of patients having to avail themselves of the criminal market for their medicine. Please ask your assemblymember to oppose this misguided bill.

Thanks much for your advocacy!
