As you may know, on January 20, the San Diego County attorney filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn California's medical marijuana laws. He did so because he was ordered to in Decembers Board of Supervisors vote, which passed 4-0, with Supervisor Ron Roberts absent. The board refused to reconsider the move despite an MPP poll showing 78% opposition to the suit and more than 1,000 constituent calls and e-mails. Three local advocates have filed an initiative to limit board members' tenures to two terms, and MPP has pledged to help gather signatures.
Meanwhile, the ACLU, Americans for Safe Access, and the Drug Policy Alliance have intervened in (became opposing parties to) the county's suit. Their demand letter convincingly shows that the county's claims have no merit and that the county does not even have standing to bring the suit! Then, this Tuesday, another countys Board of Supervisors—San Bernardino's—voted to join San Diego's suit in a closed-door, unannounced meeting.
Please pass this on to others in the county, so that together we can defend Californias humane medical marijuana laws.
