Los Angeles: Zealously oppose the 'gentle ban'

Message:

Last November, L.A. Councilmember Jose Huizar proposed banning all medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles. This represented a sudden departure from the previous work of the council, which sought to allow, yet regulate, medical marijuana dispensaries. Last week, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office proposed that the council enact a 'gentle ban' on marijuana dispensaries. Please call your councilmember to tell him or her that no ban is 'gentle' and ask that he or she oppose the proposal.

The city attorney recommends that L.A. ban medical marijuana dispensaries while allowing the seriously ill and their caregivers to cultivate plants. But many patients cannot grow their own due to a lack of resources, knowhow, or time. Banning dispensaries removes a safe and regulated channel through which patients can access their medicine. This proposal would drive many to the criminal market, depriving patients of a safe and constant supply of medicine and the city of vital tax revenue.

Los Angeles is the largest city in California, and its sick and suffering residents should not be banned out of safe access. Make sure that the city council knows that Angelenos prefer safe access to a ban.
