Calif: Oppose the proposed dispensary ban in L.A.!

Published: November 29, 2011

Late last week, L.A. Councilmember Jose Huizar proposed to ban all medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles. This proposed ban represents a sudden departure from the previous work of the council, which sought to allow, yet regulate, medical marijuana dispensaries. According to the L.A. Times, “[f]our council members support a ban, five oppose it and five are undecided, but open to the idea.” It is vital that members of the council understand the negative consequences of banning dispensaries. Please call the L.A. City Council today and voice your opposition to the ban.

Medical marijuana patients are not criminals and should not be treated as such. By removing safe and regulated access to medical marijuana through a dispensary ban, the L.A. City Council will be forcing sick and suffering people to use the criminal market to access their medicine. It’s bad for the patients and bad for the city. Please call the council to stress the importance of safe and regulated dispensaries.

Los Angeles is the largest city in California, and its sick and suffering residents should not be banned from safe access. Make sure that the city council knows that Angelenos prefer safe access to an outright ban.
