Calif.: Ask the governor to veto SB 847

Published: August 29, 2011

Last week, I wrote to ask you to help defeat two pieces of active legislation. Governor Jerry Brown has yet to take action on AB 1300, a bill that could strengthen the legal argument to allow cities and counties to ban medical marijuana collectives and other providers. Please, email Gov. Brown and ask him to veto this bill.

Another bill, SB 847, sponsored by Sen. Lou Correa, which would create a 600-foot radius around residential zones or residential uses where medical marijuana providers would not be allowed to operate, passed the Assembly last week. Since many areas that are zoned other than residential allow residential use, this bill could effectively ban medical marijuana providers from populated areas, leading to the unacceptable consequence of patients having to avail themselves of the criminal market for their medicine. Please send a second email to Governor Brown and ask him to veto this legislation as well.

Thanks much for your advocacy.
