Title:

Bill protecting dispensaries postponed until 2014

Message:

Asm. Tom Ammiano made a strategic decision to postpone further consideration on AB 604 this year, a bill co-sponsored by Sen. Darrell Steinberg. The bill would have protected and regulated medical marijuana dispensaries as recommended by the U.S. Department of Justice in its recent memo. While AB 604 was gaining bi-partisan support in the legislature, as well as from advocates and supporters around the state, there was not enough time to build the broad support necessary to ensure victory.

Efforts to pass legislation will continue when the legislature reconvenes in January 2014. In the mean time, California’s lack of regulatory oversight for businesses means those who provide to medical marijuana patients remain vulnerable to federal raids.

Please take a moment to remind your elected officials just how important state law is in protecting those who provide medical marijuana to California citizens. And be sure to pass this message along to supporters, friends, and relatives.
