Marijuana Policy Project

Alderman Matthew Petty proposed creating a marijuana policy review panel, following the lead of other cities nationwide that have passed initiatives making prosecution of marijuana offenses a low priority.

Fayetteville voters passed the initiative in November.

Petty said Tuesday during an agenda session that the panel would produce a quarterly report, "so the mayor can make sure voters' wishes are being followed. This is an action other cities have taken who passed lowest-priority ordinances."

The ordinance to create the panel will go before the City Council on May 19.
