Bismarck Expels Two Students

Two Bismarck High School students, suspended after a drug sweep at the school March 6, were expelled by the Bismarck School Board following separate expulsion hearings held Monday night by a unanimous 4-0 vote. A 16-year-old junior was expelled for 89 class days after being caught with a marijuana stem and marijuana seeds in his jacket pocket. A 17-year-old junior was expelled for 89 class days after a Malvern Police Department canine alerted on a pickup truck the student had driven to the school and parked in a parking lot near the building. A subsequent search of the truck by BHS Principal Jarrod Bray and Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department officers located a small quantity of marijuana hidden in it. The board’s decision was in line with previous expulsions of 89 days for possession of drugs on campus in violation of the district’s zero-tolerance anti-drug policies. Neither student was accused of attempting to distribute drugs on campus. The students’ parents attended the expulsion hearings.
