Eureka Springs votes to make marijuana possession its lowest law enforcement priority

Yesterday, voters in the town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas overwhelmingly approved an initiative that will make marijuana offenses the lowest enforcement priority in the city. Voters approved the initiative by a 62% to 38% margin.

While voters have enacted similar measures in four California cities and Seattle, this may be the first lowest law enforcement initiative enacted in the South.

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville chapter of NORML placed the initiative on the Eureka Spring’s ballot after attempting to get a similar measure on Fayetteville’s ballot.

This is a great step forward for Eureka Springs, as well as the state of Arkansas. Please take a moment to build on this momentum, by urging legislators to enact sensible and humane marijuana policies.
