Title:
John McCain: “Maybe we should legalize marijuana”
Message:
Big news: John McCain has said he’ll support marijuana legalization if Arizona voters do. At a town hall event last night, McCain said, “Maybe we should legalize. We’re certainly moving that way as far as marijuana is concerned. I respect the will of the people.”
Ask Senator Jeff Flake to let states decide on marijuana.
McCain’s comments could not have been better timed. Next week, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the Justice Department’s new policy allowing states to move forward with taxing and regulating marijuana. Arizona’s other senator, Jeff Flake, is a member of that committee. Sen. Flake will have the opportunity to question Justice Department officials and help shape the future of federal policy on marijuana.
There’s also this: MPP and local activists are in the planning stages of a 2016 initiative that would make marijuana legal for adults in Arizona. Of course, a new president will also be elected in 2016 and could reverse the new policy and block our initiative from taking effect. Please ask Sen. Flake to make sure that doesn’t happen by supporting legislation that would allow states like Arizona to determine their own policies on marijuana. When you’re done, ask a friend to do the same.
Thanks!
