Extremist Gov. Brewer tries to halt Arizona’s medical marijuana program!

Published: May 25, 2011

Call the governor and tell her to reverse course.

In a press conference yesterday, Gov. Jan Brewer (R) announced she will seek a declaratory judgment against Arizona’s new medical marijuana program. This unbelievable affront to the voters, and waste of taxpayer money, comes from a governor obsessed with “standing up to the feds” on illegal immigration, but not for her own seriously ill citizens.

Call Governor Brewer and tell her to stop denying protections and access to patients!

Currently, the Department of Health Services is still issuing ID cards and has indicated they plan to continue to do so, pending litigation. Because of some strong safety valve provisions that MPP inserted to protect patients, if the department stops accepting applications, patients would instead be protected from arrest with a notarized statement of valid application information and a recent written certification. Without dispensary implementation, MPP’s language would allow patients and cultivators statewide to grow their own medicine. This more chaotic implementation is the ultimate irony of Brewer’s claim of wanting to prevent abuses in her state.

Finally, if you are a seriously ill patient who was planning to use a dispensary, please write me at NMamber@mpp.org and tell me your story and how this will affect you.
