Title:
Ariz.: Help stop legislation that threatens dispensaries
Message:
Ask your representative to oppose SB 1440 today.
For years, certain state leaders in Arizona have tried to prevent medical marijuana from becoming a reality. But dispensaries are now open, and tens of thousands of medical marijuana patients are finally getting relief from their pain and suffering.
Now that attempts have failed to force a fourth vote on the issue, some legislators are pushing legislation attempting to undermine Arizona’s medical marijuana law. One such proposal, SB 1440, is billed as a way to keep medical marijuana away from children though warning labels and packaging. While no one would argue with that, dispensaries already work closely with the Department of Health Services and have warning labels on their products.
This so-called packaging bill would provide an underhanded way to shut down dispensaries. The labeling requirements are very vague, and one violation closes a dispensary, with no appeal or second chance. If SB 1440 were to become law, the slightest infraction, an honest mistake, or simple human error could lead to the immediate closure of a dispensary.
A vague law with draconian penalties is bad for Arizona’s medical marijuana patients. Please ask your representative to vote "no" on SB 1440. Then, ask your friends to do the same.
