Title:
Ariz.: Health department continues progress on medical marijuana implementation
Message:
The medical marijuana implementation process is continuing to move along in Arizona. Nearly 500 dispensary applications were submitted through last Friday, May 25, and 126 dispensary licenses are expected to be awarded in early August.
In addition, the Department of Health Services is considering petitions to include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), migraine, depression, and anxiety as qualifying medical conditions. Over 25 individuals testified at last Friday’s hearing to add these conditions, and a decision is expected in July.
DHS has been issuing ID cards to patients since early 2011. These cards protect patients from arrest, and the language of MPP's initiative allows patients to grow their own medical marijuana if they are not located within 25 miles of a dispensary, so registered patients statewide are permitted to grow their own medicine until dispensaries are implemented. We’ll continue to keep you updated as dispensary implementation develops.
