Title:
Alabama legislators consider medical marijuana testimony
Message:
Yesterday, Alabama’s House Health Committee held an early public hearing on a medical marijuana bill that has been filed for next year’s session. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Patricia Todd (D-Birmingham), would allow medical marijuana to be used legally by Alabama patients if recommended by a doctor.
Supporters of the bill included a state prosecutor, Jay Fisher, who publicly outlined five myths about the issue prior to yesterday’s hearing, and several patients suffering from debilitating illnesses. After the committee had considered 90 minutes of testimony from supporters and opponents, House Majority Leader Mickey Hammon (R-Decatur) predicted the bill would face a “steep climb” in the legislature.
