Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance -- United States

Danice K. Eaton et al. "Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance -- United States, 2007," Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports 57, issue SS-4 (June 6, 2008).

This biennial Centers for Disease Control survey of U.S. high school students looks at a variety of behaviors that might put young people at risk, including behaviors related to violence, sex, alcohol, and drugs. The 2007 survey finds current teen marijuana use in a statistical tie with current cigarette use, and that cigarette use is dropping faster than marijuana use. Indeed, while teen marijuana use is up since the survey began in 1991, teen cigarette use is down markedly.

The full 2007 survey can be downloaded at http://www.cdc.gov/HealthyYouth/yrbs/index.htm. The site has a number of other features, including a section that allows users to compare survey results from different years or different locations.
