Survey of Australians Using Cannabis for Medical Purposes

Wendy Swift, Peter Gates and Paul Dillon, "Survey of Australians using cannabis for medical purpose," Harm Reduction Journal 2, issue 18 (October 4, 2005).

This patient survey, conducted by researchers at the University of New South Wales, found that the most common conditions for which marijuana was used included chronic pain, arthritis, depression, nausea, and weight loss, with 86% reporting "great relief." For 62%, marijuana allowed them to reduce or eliminate use of other medications, with many patients reporting that other medicines caused more severe side effects than marijuana.
