Sativex Successfully Treats Neuropathic Pain Characterized by Allodynia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Turo Nurmikko et al., "Sativex successfully treats neuropathic pain characterized by allodynia: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial," Pain 133, issues 1-3 (December 15, 2007): 210-220.

Sativex is an oral spray made from natural marijuana by a UK pharmaceutical company, GW Pharmaceuticals. This clinical trial found Sativex to reduce pain and sleep disturbance better than a placebo among participants with a broad spectrum of neuropathic pain disorders. The participants remained on their usual pain medication routine throughout the trial, so Sativex provided relief on top of the opiates, anti-depressants, and other pain relievers. Side effects were generally mild.
