Two Sample Letters for H.R. 912

U.S. Representative [FULL NAME]
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative [LAST NAME]:

I am writing to ask you to add your name to the co-sponsors of H.R. 912, a bill that would allow states to implement their own medical marijuana policies. There is a tremendous amount of support among citizens and state governments for the properly prescribed use of marijuana. Indeed, more than two-thirds of state governments have passed laws supporting medical marijuana.

With an overwhelming majority of citizens and most of the states supporting the right of doctors to prescribe marijuana, it is time for the federal government to stop standing in the way, blocking the will of the people it is supposed to represent.

I would appreciate a letter informing me of your decision, and I hope you make the merciful one and co-sponsor H.R. 912.

Very truly yours,

The Honorable [FULL NAME]
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative [LAST NAME]:

I am writing regarding House bill 912. This bill will change marijuana's classification from Schedule I to Schedule II, thus enabling doctors to prescribe it to their patients in states that allow it. As you may know, voters in seven states have approved initiatives that allow patients with their doctors' approval to use marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Years of experience with marijuana show it to be effective in reducing some symptoms of AIDS, glaucoma, and MS. It also relieves the side effects associated with chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, because of its Schedule I status, marijuana cannot be prescribed, even though doctors and patients alike agree that it is more effective and less dangerous than many drugs currently available legally. As a result, sick people seeking relief from their suffering must turn to the criminal market.

Therefore, I urge you to become a co-sponsor of H.R. 912 and see to it that it becomes law as quickly as possible. So many suffering people are depending on Congress to act. Please do all you can to enact this bill.

I eagerly await your response.

Most sincerely,
